Nationswell

Tomorrow for my Black History Moment I am going to look at the Lessons of the Civil Rights Movement. I truly believe Dr. MLKjr. is a great example of what are we inspiring!  Nationswell is a great example of people giving back!  Dr. King would love this!

What will you do?

Not the average black girl!

This is so powerful!  This spoken word will give you goose bumps!  I will let it speak for itself!

The Gospel of Wealth

In APUSH this last week we finished Period 6, and discussed the concept of the Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie.  The Gilded Age is remembered for the wealth obtained by a lucky few.  These men could behave badly, and do what they wanted because they were rich and believed in the theory of Social Darwinism.  The idea that the wealthy were the fittest in society.  This notion justified their mindset and behavior.

Carnegie challenged this idea, and argued that the wealthy had a responsibility to make a difference in their community, and donate their wealth to charity.  A few took on this idea, but most thought he was crazy! Thinking about it Carnegie most likely had this belief because of his experience.  Carnegie cam!e to this country from Scotland with $8 in his pocket.  He had empathy!

I asked the students if they  agreed with Carnegie, and most said no.  They believe it is the wealthy's money, and should not be their responsibility.  I have a different view.  I believe it is all of our responsibility!  I truly believe if you are blessed - you must share that blessing!  No matter how small - everything makes a difference!

This is why I love Nationswell!  I love this idea that an individual or group can make a difference! What can you do?
