Washington's Farewell Adress

Who is the most beloved president?  Almost everyone has an answer.  My favorite president is Lincoln, but that is a different story.  Polls reveal Washington, Lincoln, FDR, and Kennedy.  But the president who has had much influence was and is George Washington.

President Washington was America's first president.  He won by unanimous vote, and could of died president.  But President Washington's fear was being seen as a monarch so he only served two terms!  President Washington set the precedent till FDR.  Every president till  FDR only served two presidents because he did!

So when President Washington left office he gave a Farewell Address.  He actually did  not deliver the Address, but it was printed in newspapers for citizens to read!

John Alvon argues in his book that President Washington's Farewell is a warning, and still applies to today!  I find this idea fascinating, and encourage all to read this book!

There were two things President Washington  warned Americans against:
1. Beware of Foreign Entanglements
2. Be cautious of Political Parties

America was isolationist due to number 1, and he felt political parties would divide this country!
