One of the worst aspects of World War 2 War experiences in the Homefront was the Japanese Internment Camps. Americans were terrified after Pearl Harbor. They really thought Japanese AMERICANS were spies! The fear was so real that President Roosevelt issued an Executive Order 9006, locking up the Japanese AMERICANS for the duration of the war. Most spent 4 years, but that was way too long. One day was too long. The government said sorry, and gave each family $10. Who can rebuild with $10!!!!
Below is George Takei's TED Talk. He was 4 years old when his family was locked up. This is one family's story. It is so powerful, and I hate that we did not have time to watch it in class - so watch now if you CAN!
