Transfer of Power

Something that happens every four years in America is a transfer of power!  America elects a new president every four years.  Right now you need 270 Electoral Votes to win!  Check out 270towin.com!   It shows every presidential race since George Washington's presidency!  It is fun to look at!

The 1790s the Federalist Party had the Power then in the Election of 1800 Thomas Jefferson won!  A new party, the Democrat Republicans, was in power!  This was the first time in American History there was a transfer of power!  It was such a BIG deal that history remembers it as the Revolution of 1800!  People were nervous it would not go well?  And to a nice surprise the transfer of power was PEACEFUL!!!!

Every President since Washington has had a transfer of power, and if they lost the race they concede!  Right now our sitting President lost the election and is refusing to concede, and help with a transition!  It is crazy to think about!  But watch what happens!

We Lost A Giant!

She was known as RBG, and she was an Icon!  Her image was on masks, hats, t-shirts, and so much more!  But her name was Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and she was on the Supreme Court!  She was nominated by President Clinton, and there was a collective sadness when the world heard she passed!  RBG was in her 80s and sadly had Pancreatic Cancer!

As a history teacher it will be interesting  to see what happens next!  Watch the process - we will all see it unfold on TV!

Make Good Trouble

July 2020  America lost a bright light!  John Lewis passed away!  He was involved in the Civil Rights Movement, he was present at Bloody Sunday and almost beaten to death, he gave a keynote speech at the March on Washington where Dr. King gave his I Have A Dream speech, and became a congressmen!

Giving a keynote speech at the March on Washington

There  is SO MUCH to learn from this BRAVE and COURAGEOUS man!  I often wonder would I have the courage he had and get arrested and be beaten?  I honestly do not know!  Below is an appearance he gave on The  View!  Please watch!  They discuss his accomplishments, thoughts on today, and how we should all live our life!!!!  The most amazing thing to me is he is not angry!!!  If anyone has a right to be angry - it is John Lewis!

Paris Je T'Aime!!!!

I ADORE FRANCE!!!  I always say I am the biggest Francophile you will meet!  I took 10 years of French!  My biggest regret in my life is I never studied abroad!  I want to be fluent in French more than anything!  One movie that spoke to me was  Paris Je T'Aime!  To hear French for two hours is fantastic!  The movie is divided by the districts of Paris!  My favorite is the 14th!  I feel like I talk French like this woman, but I had a similar experience!  I have been to France 15 times, and I cannot remember which trip but  I had a moment!  I was sitting on the steps of Sacre Coeur looking out on the city.  In that moment I fell in love with Paris, and the city fell in love with me!

I feel like a brat when I say I've been to France 15 times, but my first trip was in 1998 and I paid for it! I got a job at AMC and saved every paycheck!  I got the bug, and had to find a way back!  The BEST part of being a teacher is taking students to Europe!  I have gone to Paris 3 times with BTW students!  Here are a few pics of me in Paris with students!

This is infront of Notre Dame de Paris!  The legend says if you touch it with your foot you'll come back to Paris - so of course we went!

On my 3rd trip they wanted to complete a jumping picture!  I LOVE this shot!

Day 1 in Paris with Ms. Manduando

This is so Parisian to me!

I've been so many times - I've started getting artsy!

Boat tour of Paris

On my 2nd trip we had a free day on the Champs Elysee!

On my 2nd trip - a stereotype French waiter!

On my first trip to France with students - we took them to Versailles.  We were the first one in the palace and I got this pic of the Hall of Mirrors!  I am so proud!  The last time I was here the room was so crowded the crowd decided when I moved!

Just Mercy

The real guy!  Just Mercy is based off a true true story!  Bryan Stevenson has spent his life trying to get innocent humans off death row!  I am so glad there ate people like this in the world!

This movie will shake you to your core, make you laugh, inspire you to cry, jump up in frustration, jump in joy, and so much more!  If you have not seen this movie - watch it now!  It will move you, and make you so thankful for extraordinary people like Bryan Stevenson!

Booker T. Graduation 2020

What a strange year it has been!  I feel bad for Everyone, but most of all the Seniors!  They cancelled all Senior Activities including Prom and Graduation.  Today the school honored and celebrated the Senior's great accomplishment, and had a drive through Graduation at the school.  I was present, and here are my pics!

The Seniors had to stay in their car, and enter on the third floor!  I was sitting under a tree by the Historical Building!

I took a selfie before it all began!  Boy my hair was frizzy!

I know I am Hartley now, but 2020 knew me as Haughey!  I was extra and made a sign! I held up  my sign and cheered  them on!

A slow moment without Seniors!
