Just Mercy

The real guy!  Just Mercy is based off a true true story!  Bryan Stevenson has spent his life trying to get innocent humans off death row!  I am so glad there ate people like this in the world!

This movie will shake you to your core, make you laugh, inspire you to cry, jump up in frustration, jump in joy, and so much more!  If you have not seen this movie - watch it now!  It will move you, and make you so thankful for extraordinary people like Bryan Stevenson!

Do Not Ever Give Up!

On the plane home I got the  opportunity to watch "Eddie the  Eagle".  I never saw it in the theaters, and I really wanted to - so I was excited to watch it!  It did not disappoint, and at the end I cried!   I wanted to tell you about this movie because it has a great message!

One thing that really stood out to me was his dream to be an Olympian Athlete!  Everyone told him there is no way that would happen, made fun of him, and laughed at him.  He did not care!  He never gave up, and stopped training!  It is really inspirational!

That is one of my favorite things about history!  We can learn life lessons from it!  Trust me life is too short to learn all the lessons individually!  This movie reminds us to go for our dreams and never give up on them!

The real Eddie!  Best part is that this is a true story!

Here Comes The Boom

This weekend I saw this movie!  It was fantastic and inspirational.  My whole family thought it was the feel good movie of the year!  As a teacher it was inspiring to see a teacher give his all to his school, and his students.

The teacher had lost his way, and was even teacher of the year!  There was a part when he talked about looking forward to the beginning of the school year, and decorating his classroom.  He compared it to college and moving into a dorm room.  I totally related to that.  I love decorating my classroom.  I look forward to it every summer!

This movie also shows the importance of education.  As a society we have to make education a priority!  Go see this movie - it won't disappoint!

My classroom - It took a week to decorate!

Blind Side

I just watched this movie on TV, and have to do a post!  What is great about this movie is the reminder that someone believes in you!  And when someone believes in you incredible things can happen!  In this movie Michael is a kid from the projects who is taken in by a wealthy family.  All of sudden so much is possible!  He is playing football, making good grades, and getting scholarships to colleges.  It was always possible - he just needed the push and drive!  Michael needed someone to believe in him!

Sandra Bullock as the concerned mother

So it makes me wonder - who believes in you?  Who pushes you, and expects excellence?  Is it your parents, a teacher, a leader in the community, or a friend?  Whoever is pushing you in your life - hold on to them and thank them!  You are so lucky!  If you think you have no one - you DO at BTW!  The administration, staff, and faculty love you so much, and want the best for you!  That is why at BTW teachers expect so much of you, and have high standards.  We want the best for you!  We want you to follow your dreams, and have the life of your dreams!

Your life is your life.  You make it what you want, and in high school you will make decisions that will impact your adult life.  Just know that I'm behind you - your biggest cheerleader wanting you to accomplish all of your dreams and goals!  I saw Charlize Theron on an interview recently and she discussed helping kids in South Africa.  She said she came home thankful because circumstances worked out for her.  She is an Oscar winning actress making millions!  She was reminded that circumstances don't always work out for everyone.  We are blessed - how are you going to use your life?

Good Will Hunting

I was just thinking about this movie.  It is a great movie, and there are two scenes in particular that I was thinking about.  Those two scenes are at the bottom of this post.  The first is Matt Damon's character calling a guy out in a bar.  I love this scene because the guy is trying to show that he is smart, and he discusses history.  But Matt Damon proves you don't need an ivy league education to have knowledge.  Matt Damon's character is a janitor, and the guy goes to Harvard.

The second scene is with Robin Williams and Matt Damon.  In the movie Matt Damon is angry, and has to go to counseling.  Robin Williams is a counselor, and this is the moment he gets through to Matt Damon.

Freedom Writers

There is a whole bunch of great movies about teaching.  One of those movies is Freedom Writers.  It is based off a real teacher and her class.  What this teacher does is incredible!  It is inspiring for me as a teacher to watch.  One thing she did was bond with her students.  I think that is so important!  I try to bond with my students everyday, and as a teacher I don't think we are always aware of the power we have.  Our words are powerful, and make a difference.  I choose my words carefully!  If you haven't seen this movie - see it NOW!

The inspirational song from the movie!

One of the great things that this teacher did her first year was teach her students about the holocaust.  After learning about the holocaust they read "The Diary of Ann Frank."  The students were so touched they brought the lady who hid Ann Frank to come speak to them.  And they really did it!  Here is a little bit of the scene from the movie.

Our Deepest Fear

One of the most inspirational poems is "Our Deepest Fear..."  It is quoted in Coach Carter and Akeelah and the Bee.  Those clips are located at the bottom of this post.  This poem is inspiring, and gives strength to all.  It tells us not to be afraid of life, not to be afraid to shine, not to be afraid of yourself.  You can do anything - the sky is the limit!  Go out there and claim your life!

Inspirational song from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.  This song is called, "Can't Stop."  The band is telling us to live our life.  It says this life is more than a read through...  I love this song!
