1. Know History So We Do Not Repeat

American Slavery

In all my classes we are discussing American Slavery.  It is such a powerful but unusual institution.  In APUSH one  must know Slave Culture!  Family, music, slave  revolts, and resistance!  Movies are powerful and you can get a sense of whatever you are  watching!  Here are some great films that give you an idea of slavery!

Compromise

In APUSH we are discussing the Constitutional Convention and the compromises  made there the Summer of 1787.  The more we discussed  this moment in US History I realized how important Compromise is!  This is a great life lesson to have!  If you want a little you must give a little!

Life Lessons

I want my students to know they stand on the shoulders of greatness!  During Homecoming I showed my Oklahoma History Students  the Wayman Tisdale Story!  WOW!  Wayman Tisdale is an outstanding Human Being!!!!  He was 6'9, and played for the NBA.  After the NBA Tisdale pursued his first love music!  In the midst of that Tisdale gets diagnosed with cancer.  Things get so bad they have to amputate his leg!  He handles it all with such grace and positivity.  If I am having bad day I watch this!  I have seen this documentary many times and it never gets old!

I had them make a flyer of life lessons after watching!  They were  so good!
