Invictus
Invictus is a FANTASTIC movie about what Nelson Mandela did to bring his divided South Africa together when he became the first black President of South Africa. South Africa is similar to the United States in terms of Race Issues. This week we held a Socratic Seminar discussing the development of Slavery. South Africa is divided and for years Nelson Mandela fought against the racism. He was caught and thrown into Prison.
Mandela's Prison Cell for 30 years.
When Mandela gained his freedom he could run for President. He won by a landslide. Everyone around him said show it to the White Africans - they need to feel what they did for years. Mandela said no way! They are our brothers and we must bring them in! Mandela did it through sports and the world cup!
The movie is WONDERFUL!!! Watch if you CAN!

Do your Job!
Jon Stewart and NYC Firefighters who responded to 9/11
There is so MUCH one could say about 9/11! One of the scariest days in American History! I was a Junior in College and I remember that day like it was yesterday! I remember the sadness, fear, and confusion ALL were feeling. So for 9/11 22 years later I want to share Jon Stewart's fight for NYC First Responders!
It is a reminder to pay attention to what the government is doing! Do what you can for people! Jon Stewart uses his celebrity platform to help their cause! Below is the video of his speech in front of congress, and the BEST pic ever! Stewart has his biggest problem with Mitch McConnel. Whoever got this pic is brilliant!
Stewart was lobbying at the capitol and look who walked past?!

Colin Kaepernick taking a stand!
APUSH students must be able to write contextt for historical moments, or the topic of the Document Based Questions or Long Essay Question. So today in class - 9/1/2023 - we gave context to this famous image of Colin Kaepernick kneeling at a football game. We had the BEST conversation in each class! Students get it! My favorite context started "Prior to Kaepernick's stand..." Such GOOD Writers!
As we discussed this image every class told me about a series on Netflix called "Colin in Black and White." It is so good! I have watched 2 Episodes! I would recommend it to all!
